309. God certainly makes sure that we feel the way we choose to feel: When we choose to feel good, He makes sure that we feel good and when we choose to feel bad, He makes sure that we feel bad. So, God gives us what we want: Whatever the situation, we feel as we choose to feel.

308. Q: Why so much poverty, unhappiness and disease if God exists?
A: God may be compared to the cloud. In raising rice, barley etc., the cloud is the general cause. If the paddy seed produces paddy and barley seed, barley then the particular cause is within the seed itself. Similarly, God is the general cause in the creation of Man. Their inside form, conduct and experience are chiefly the result of their own previous conduct …

307.  Lucky Me!
- daughter, Josheca Mukerji

I was sitting, not knowing what to do, when suddenly I saw a small bird chirping, sitting on one of the branches of a small tree. It was a cute one. I just kept looking at it and then, after sometime, it flew away. I wished I could be a bird, fly as far as I could and chirp just like the bird.
Then I saw a butterfly. It was so colourful. I couldn’t help admiring it. So, I now wished I could be a butterfly with those artistic wings.
Suddenly, I heard the birds chirping at the top of their voices without stopping. I got up, went a little further and saw that a bird had been killed by a cat. Now, I didn’t wish to be a bird. As I came back, I saw that I had unknowingly stepped over a butterfly and killed it, maybe the same one I was admiring so much. Now, I didn’t wish to be a butterfly. I felt lucky to be born as a human being.
We humans have so many advantages over other creatures. We can defend ourselves, we can be independent to an extent and so on … But, we aren’t contented. We aren’t happy with ourselves. Each one of us has our distinctive qualities but we don’t see that. We often feel that the other one is happier, luckier etc. We are better than the other creatures in so many ways. Likewise, everyone is better than the other in one way or the other. That doesn’t mean we grudge and grumble over what the other one has got. It simply means taking inspiration from the other and improving oneself.
Now, I neither want to be a bird nor a butterfly. I do not want to be any other person. I just want to be myself, an improved myself.
